The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC), is Montgomery County's designated local arts and humanities agency to support arts and humanities programming. The Arts and Humanities Council creates cultural visibility, builds audiences, provides networking opportunities and technical support, and advocates for federal, state, and local arts funding for Montgomery County's cultural activities. AHCMC provides arts and humanities funding through individual and organization grants and also leverages support by developing public/private partnerships with local businesses, schools, and community organizations.

For 22 years, the mission of BAPA has been to integrate the arts into the lives of all young people by actively involving them as

  • Students of arts education programs;
  • Performers in student, pre-professional and professional productions;
  • Participants in arts-based teaching and learning programs in schools, and
  • Audience members of professional theatre productions.

Programs include: classes in theatre, dance, and voice for children ages 3-18; performance opportunities for children ages 8-18; summer camps and classes for ages 3-18; Deaf Access, an integrated group of Deaf, hearing, and hard-of-hearing teenage students who perform together; Arts Access, a theatre program for children with physical and cognitive disabilities; Imagination Quest (IQ), BAPA’s in-school arts education component; and Imagination Stage, a year-round professional theatre for children and their families.

Joy of Motion Dance Center (JOMDC) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing high quality learning and performance opportunities that reinforce the principle that dance is for everyone. Founded in 1976, Joy of Motion teaches and encourages people of all ages who want to integrate movement into their lives for better physical and spiritual health. Offering a wide variety of dance and movement classes, including programs for adults, children and teens, JOMDC also has locations in Friendship Heights, Dupont Circle and a future location as part of the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Northeast D.C.

The Maryland Youth Ballet has offered dance in Bethesda since 1971. Located in Woodmont Corner, the MYB has a comprehensive training program for over 650 children and over 1000 adults each year. The focus of the organization's training and performances is classical ballet, supplemented by jazz, modern dance, and stretch and Pilates.

Highlights include:

  • Pre-professional training for children ages 4 through 18 - creative movement through Release Time.
  • Impressive list of alumni currently dancing on the professional stage.
  • Summer Festival that includes performing at Wolf Trap.
  • Productions of classical, full length ballets.
  • The Nutcracker, a 14-year tradition, winner of two Metro DC Dance Awards.
  • Performances of contemporary and modern dance pieces.
  • Appearances on programs with other companies in venues around Washington.

Now in its 25th Anniversary Season, this critically-acclaimed professional theatre company has recently opened its new 400-seat performance space at Wisconsin Avenue and East-West Highway in Downtown Bethesda. Round House Theatre uses this new location to present a subscription series of plays and musicals and a host of other performance events. Bethesda is also be the site for some of the organization's popular Education and Outreach programs.

As the primary multi-disciplinary arts center in Montgomery county, Maryland, Strathmore Hall exists to celebrate the visual, Literary and performing arts, inviting art, artists and audiences to come together in an environment which values excellence and creative exploration. Strathmore hall Arts Center provides affordable, accessible arts programming to more than 150,000 people each year.

Strathmore Hall changes, expands and recasts yearly its full schedule of arts programming, including 25 art exhibitions, 21 chamber music concerts, 15 lecture/humanities programs, more than 30 arts education activities and 50 Art After Hours programs highlighting cabaret music, classical recitals, visual art demonstrations and poetry readings. Outdoor concerts (20), children’s theatre, festivals and a new summer art camp for kids serve more than 50,000 people of all ages each summer.
